PAIR OF EARLY CONVICT RIVET TYPE LEG IRONS: with chain attached; for use on the chain gangs; part of rivets still intact; 17" of chain between irons & 42" of chain to attach to the main gang chain; all showing considerable wear. Framed story claims the convict chains were dug up from the floor of a cave in 1952 by Gavin Berecky between Artarmon & the Suspension Bridge at Cammeray on Sydney's North Shore. A piece of history.
