815 VERY EARLY, ORNATELY DECORATED SAUDI ARABIAN WAHABITE JAMBIYA DAGGER, Circa late 18th C.: g. 17½" double edged, curved blade with medial ridge & minor staining; horn cruciform shaped hilt overlain with silver straps & embellished with 6 large silver pearl shaped nodules; vg wooden scabbard bound in silver, ensuite on the top third & brass below, between these are bands of finely woven brass central decoration; impressive & in good cond. The Wahabite is the largest Jambiya because its blade length s not as curved as shorter versions. Locally this type of Jambiya is called Asabak Cherjaz or Sebiki Cyemini, the term Wahabite is a general name for the people of Saudi Arabia & Yemen. L/R Catalogue A55 $1200 – 1400
